As I mentioned under What’s it All About?, I am using my passion for photography to photo journal 366 sunrises in 2012 and write a daily blog.
Two events, watching the movie Julie and Julia and completion of the Landmark Education Forum and Advanced course, inspired me to take on this challenge. The movie Julie and Julia was fun and intriguing and gave me the idea. Landmark helped me create new possibilities!
Landmark promises you will:
From their website:
“In our research, 94 percent of people surveyed said that The Landmark Forum made a profound, lasting difference in the way they lived their lives.” - IMC, Inc.
“The Landmark Forum is specifically designed to bring about positive and permanent shifts in the quality of your life. These shifts are the direct cause for a new and unique kind of freedom and power—the freedom to be absolutely at ease no matter what the circumstance, the power to be in action effectively in those areas that are important to you”.
LANDMARK FORUM
I completed the weekend long Landmark Forum in September 2011. It was so powerful and positive that I continued on with the ten free seminars, included but not required. I completed the seminars January 18, 2012.
ADVANCED COURSE
During the seminars I decided I wanted to kick up the quality of my life and I signed up for and completed the Advanced Course, (the Forum on steroids) on December 2, 2011.
This weekend-long program resulted in a community project that left me amazed! A project that had to focus on the group, community, society or global level, be completed within less than 48 hours and leave one feeling a sense of amazement once complete.
The project I completed in less than 48 hours was to photo-journaled the Occupy Boston Movement and feed 300 people! I worked with 4 other Landmark colleagues and we completed it just three days before Occupy Boston disbanded. I will post the project details, photos and results under a new section this spring.
SELF-EXPRESSION AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM [SELP]
I enrolled in the Landmark Self-Expression and Leadership Program, a five month program where we discover our strengths as authentic and powerful community leaders and complete a community program that will make a difference that makes a difference.
Landmark Education in Quincy, offers many programs from the core program [The Forum] to Leadership and Coaching courses. I attend several Wednesday evenings a month plus three Saturday work-sessions over the course of the five months. The project I am creating focuses on helping unemployed and underemployed 21 to 30-year-old young adults discover their passion and translate that passion into a career path or create/secure a job. The project is an education, coaching and mentor program called Gen E Leaders of Cape Cod [Generation Entrepreneur Leaders of Cape Cod].
Vision
Gen E Leaders of Cape Cod envisions a community in which high school and college graduates between the ages of 21 and 30 create career paths through education or new businesses on Cape Cod resulting in happy productive lives and a willingness to give back by becoming Gen E Leaders to other Cape Codders.
Mission
Gen E uses professional, credentialed coaches and successful business leaders with real-world experience to address the issue of underemployed and unemployed high school and college graduates Gen E helps 21 to 30-year-old Cape Cod high school and college graduates struggling to find employment discover their passion, plan the direction of their dreams and create intentional change that result in career paths on or off Cape and/or new businesses onCape Cod.
I am working on a detailed proposal, securing more mentors [I have ten to date], partnering with a collaborative organization, and seeking qualified young adults with creative passions who are willing to work with mentors! [I have 15 registered to date].
The project will begin with a passion mapping workshop, classes and evolve into coaching and mentorship opportunities. The long-term goal is to increase economic stability on Cape Cod through new business opportunities, reduce unemployment and attract younger populations to the Cape!
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE OF CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS
In addition to Landmark I am also enrolled in CLI, Community Leadership Institute of Cape Cod and the Islands. CLI is a leadership program that helps develop community leaders and results in projects that link volunteers with community organizations to help address identified community needs. I am working with a team of five and our project is the springboard to my Landmark project. We are working with Barnstable County Council for Children, Youth and Families [BCCCYF] and the Cape and Islands Workplace Investment Board [WIB]. These groups are facilitating the 9th Annual Youth Summit.
Our team of 6 is helping organize the program from soliciting sponsors, funds, raffle items, food and volunteers, to coordinating with speakers, marketing and promotions. We will also provide hands on support the day of the event.
In addition, I developed a passion mapping seminar that I will be co-facilitating, and before the seminar I will play photographer!
Our goal is to find passionate youth with entrepreneurial spirits, help them discover their passion and commit to working with a Cape Cod professional in a mentor/mentee relationship. We will follow the groups and watch them create their future!
I am passionate about helping our youth. And through Landmark and CLI I am the possibility of creativity, inspiration and fun, empowering new Cape Cod Entrepreneurs.
Updates as of May 25, 2012
Read about it! Youth Summit 2012 was a huge success and our class went swimmingly!
I completed Landmark SELP and CLI this month! Both programs provided opportunities for which I am forever grateful! I met so many wonderful people, increased my knowledge about the education, fishing industry, legal system, the environment, the arts and more on Cape Cod.
I designed a mentor program that I hope to see implemented this year and created and co-facilitated a Passion Mapping class at the 2012 Youth Summit. I made new life-long friends and I challenged myself to do what I did not think was possible!
